Trekking is without doubt the best way to experience Africa. Below is the description
of two most interesting cultural trekkings in
Masai area :
Ngorongoro Highlands Trekking
day 1
Depart Arusha in the morning for transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend
into the crater for full day game viewing, with picnic lunch on the crater floor.
Come out of the crater on the other side in the late afternoon and proceed to
Nainokanoka for camping. Donkeys and Masai donkey drivers are taken here.
day 2
Start of the trekking. The luggage is carried by donkeys and Masai donkey drivers.
Walk up to the Empakai Crater rim, where you'll camp.
day 3
Descend into the Empakai crater, and continue trekking through a magnificent landscape
to Acacia for camping. Ol Doinyo Lengai and Mount Meru are seen along the way.
day 4
Last day of the trek to Lake Natron, and camping on Kamakia campsite.
day 5
Shortly after midnight transfer to the foothills of Ol Doinyo Lengai and start
climbing the volcano. The summit is reached by runrise. After descending you'll be
collected again by your car for transfer back to the Camp. Afternoon possibilty for
a walk to the waterfall (swimming).
day 6
You might take a walk to the shores of Lake Natron, a breeding place for thousands of
flamingo's. Giraffes or other animals are often seen in this area.
Return to Arusha in the afternoon, or proceed on a safari.

Simanjiro Trekking
day 1
Collect from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast for transfer to Rundugai Masai
market (usually on Mondays). From here you start trekking with donkeys for the
luggage, Masai donkey drivers and Masai guide. Take a picnic lunch on the way. The
trek goes to Chemka waterfalls, where you'll spend the night. Take a swim in the
natural bassin of the hot spring. Mt. Kilimanjaro is usually clearly seen from here
in the early morning hours.
Distance : 14 kms
day 2
After breakfast start walking to the river junction, where you might view wild
crocodiles. Proceed to Nomehuti village for camping near a Masai boma. A picnic lunch
is taken along the way.
Distance : 9 kms
day 3
In the morning you can view Morans (Masai warriors) sucking blood, obtained by an
arrow shot in the neck of a cow. Leave for Mt. Bonza, from where you can see
Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. In the daytime the place is occupied by monkeys, baboons
and crocodiles. During the night the mountain is famous for its many elephants.
You'll camp just nearby where elephants sometimes come to bath in the evening.

day 4
After breakfast walk to the springs and proceed with picnic lunch to Ornguswa village.
Continue walking to the point where you'll be picked up by the car for transfer back
to Arusha.
